feature: raising social awareness through science fiction, the art of marcus kiser

September 8, 2015

Check out the latest work of visual artist Marcus Kiser – one of the featured artists of new art exhibit, ‘Intergalactic Soul’, in Charlotte NC at the Harvey B Gantt center of African American Art (along with artist Jason Woodberry). His latest creations explore race and white supremacy with a Sci-Fi twist; centered on a character and story that Kiser hopes to turn into a graphic novel. Creative Loafing Charlotte state, “Its main characters are a black astronaut boy named Pluto and a toddler-like cyborg named Astro. Together, they are traveling through space — a setting that represents the idea of freedom and consciousness. It’s there the two characters encounter intolerant, white supremacist like space creatures, including the intolerant rulers, Jim Crow-inspired robots”. Explore below and CLICK HERE for info on the exhibition. Kisser tells us, “This exhibition brings science fiction and social awareness together and explores a cosmic sci-fi theme that’s driven by social, political and cultural undertones.”
