Take a look at the Ikuzi Dolls – the new toy series from Indie entrepreneur, and mother of four, Ozi Okaro. The Nigerian-American designer created the dolls (which come in 3 different shades of brown, with different hair textures) over the last year; co-created with her 7 and 10 year-old daughters. Okaro states. “Ikuzi Dolls will help teach black girls to love how they look and encourage them to challenge today’s standard of beauty presented by the media. The word “Ikuzi” means to teach in the Igbo language; let’s teach our girls to love who they are.” She tells us: “I decided to create these dolls because while growing up I never had a doll that looked like me and I wanted my daughters who have different complexions to each have a doll that was beautiful and looked like them.” You can support the first production run of the dolls (via Kickstarter) by clicking HERE.
