feature: south african, london-based textile womenswear designer sindiso khumalo presents zulu and ndebele heritage-inspired prints in ss16 collection

Sindiso Khumalo, a South African textile designer (now based in Hackney, London), creates sustainable textiles and womenswear. Khumalo, who is trained in both architecture and textile futures, designs Zulu and Ndebele heritage-inspired prints for her structured garments. In expressing her commitment to maintain a sustainable and ethical manufacturing, Khumalo works closely with NGO’s and small workshops in South Africa where local women assemble the textiles for her collections.

Khumalo’s work has been recognized by Vogue Italia, from whom she received the Womenswear Award of 2015 from. Her garments have been showcased in The Smithsonian, Royal Festival Hall in London, the Louisiana Museum in Denmark, Vogue UK, Elle, and Marie Claire.
