feature: the “black woman appreciation” of canadian storyboard artist pearl low

Check out the illustrations of young Canadian storyboard artist Pearl Low. Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Low’s work focuses on “blackness” and “black woman appreciation” (her latest project being ‘Fumi’s Sketchbook: Black Girls Vol.1′). She tells us: ” In the city I live in, there aren’t many black people. Most of the population is asian or white. Being half black and half asian I found I could connect and relate to asian people living here but I found there was very little support and love for my own-and others’ blackness. So lately, i’ve decided to do my own project to try to send out more support for the black community locally, and also to anyone out there willing to listen.” She adds, “I feel like I don’t see enough support or representation of black women in art, so I’m trying to do my bit by making my own.”.
