Art

feature: the experimental mind of athi-patra ruga, and a body used for art

October 13, 2014

Athi-Patra Ruga is a South African performance artist who uses the mediums of video, textiles, and animation to explore themes such as utopia and dystopia. Ruga began his journey in fashion; but after coming to a realization that the fashion industry was ruled by a transient and unpolitical nature, Ruga transitioned into art – using his body as a canvas to communicate politics. The artist is mostly know for his work, ‘Azania’. It revolves around a character that lives in the center of 250 balloons.
