feature: we are brazilian creative team catsu street – “three black girls, a lot of fashion, art and a camera”
We are the ‘Catsu Street’. Three Black girls in São Paulo, a lot of fashion, art and a camera. ‘Catsu’ is an abbreviation of Catarina and Suyane, the founders of the project. Suyane has always loved the fashion world, and had started working as a stylist when she met photographer Catarina. After falling for Catarina’s visual eye, the two began to collaborate often – and it was around this time that ‘Catsu Street’ was born. The mission: Show a different perspective of Brazilian fashion, with a focus on street fashion. As the project grew, covering areas beyond streetwear, fashion student Lídia joined the team. Having a considerable arsenal of pieces (done by herself and bought from thrift stores), made Lidia the perfect candidate to join the project. They also welcomed photographer Santiago Almeida as a collaborator, who works closely with popular blogger Maga Moura.

We’ve had some great partnerships so far – we photographed the singer Karol Konká, the clothing line Philadelphia, Insanis, adidas and many more. But now we want to sets our sights higher and share things beyond fashion. Because we are aware of the need for an evolution in Brazilian fashion, we want to break paradigms and give a voice and platform to people; be they models, non-models, and from different ethnic groups; and because we are black, we celebrates more than just the European standard perpetuated by the media in Brazil.
