Following recent events in Ferguson, and the failing of a grand jury to indict a police officer for killing an unarmed black man (once again), a hashtag highlighting white privilege has suddenly gone viral. However the hashtag has met some criticism – with some applauding the honesty of those involved (and their alliance) and others accusing them of steering the spotlight and dialogue away from the black community.
