film: ‘afronell’ – new feature film about a young black woman in the l.a. punk scene of the 1970’s

Check out new feature film project ‘AFRONELL’. Currently in its early stages, the film tells the story of a teenage musician from South Central, Los Angeles, and the L.A. punk scene of 1979 that she struggles to establish herself in. The feature film is somewhat inspired by Carla “Maddog” du Plantier – the African-American female drummer of 70’s L.A. punk band The Controllers – and the force behind the project, writer/director Jan Arnold, hopes to celebrate not only Los Angeles’ punk rock scene; but the African-American, Latino, and female presence that made the scene what it is. Arnold – a South Central native – has already been selected for some of the biggest screenwriter labs through the project (2013 Black List Screenwriters Lab, 2012 Sundance Screenwriting Lab). She tells AFROPUNK that music production will come from George Clinton and Fishbone collaborator, Lonnie Marshall (Weapon of Choice); and that she aims to release a teaser trailer shortly along with an indiegogo campaign.
