New York. One of the most unique places in the world. Where else can you see a stock broker, a punk rocker, and a college student standing in line for a burger? And when you do see that line, it's probably outside of Frites & Meats. Frites and Meats can be found all around Manhattan and will be featured at the Afro-punk Festival this year. Frites & Meats is one of Manhattan's up and coming food trucks. “We love making great burgers” says co-founder Hiassam Beydoun. Beydoun and brothers Ali Beydoun and Mohammad Beydoun started Frites and Meats in October 2009 after deciding to provide New Yorkers with premium burgers and great customer service. Since then they have being serving premium burgers, great fries and Frites. They will be joining us for the Afro-punk Bites and Beats Food Truck Festival at the Afro-punk Festival 2011 Aug. 27-28 in Brooklyn! Contributor: Malikah ShabazzYou can find Frites and Meats any given day in Tribeca with a line of devoted fans waiting to order. “They love it,” Beydoun says affectionately of his Tribeca fans. “They line up first, always first.” What's so special about Frites and Meats that causes even the trendy Tribecans to take a moment out of their wonderful world of art and enjoy? “Try the burger,” Beydoun says. “Great burger, great service... It's a whole package.” Beydoun took a minute out of his schedule of providing NY with some of the great burgers known to man to answer Afro-punk's 12 Degrees of Delicious:
Why do you rock?
Try the burger. Great burger, great service. We have burgers of the week, a lot of them are picked by fans. We have a lot of fan involvement. We play Rock n' Roll in our truck. And we have Custom-Made Burgers.
What is your signature dish?
Kobe Burger with the works (Kobe patty, guacamole, onion jam, bacon, and mesclun greens)
What dish do people order the most?
The burger of the week. It's the most popular picked by fans.
What sets you apart from other trucks?
The whole theme and customer service. It's a whole package. Consistency and customer service.
Most memorable customer?
We have so many. I'll say Tribeca fans. They love it. They line up first, always up first.
If you could pick one artist to be your spokesperson, who would it be and why?
James Brown. His music is electrified. You just want to move and shake it. That's what people are doing at the truck.
Who is your favorite Afro-punk performer, why and what dish on your menu would you suggest they MUST try and why?
Gym Class Heroes. They have a good message. Something I can relate to. I would suggest they try the Southwest Fusion (Grass-fed Angus patty, spicy guacamole, pepper jack cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and sweet chili sauce).
Personal favorite item on the menu?
Wild Thang (Grass-fed Angus, wild ketchup chipotle, double battered onion rings, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, on a brioche bun).
What dish on your menu do you think should be an official Afro-punk dish?
Wild Thang
When people walk up to your truck, what band will they probably hear blasting from the stereo?
Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Harry Belafonte, James Brown
Who is your ultimate road trip artist, meaning who do you have to listen to when on the road?
Pearl Jam
Any final thoughts?
We are very excited to be at Afro-punk and are looking forward to seeing everyone.
