With a voice and confidence of someone twice her age, teenage Jendayi Bonds leads her younger brother, Gyasi Bonds, and friend Zoe Czarnecki in the sublime Charlie Belle. The band has a 90's alt rock vibe with frank and sometimes charmingly absurd lyrics (I refuse to use the word quirky. I refuse. I refuse. I refuse!) On their debut EP, Get To Know, the trio shows a depth and sense of style and self rare for any age.

The title track “Get To Know,” opens with notes of dreampop before Gyasi's driving beat kicks in, cutting against Jendayi's innate sense of melody. The trio has incredible interplay, building tension and release, and turning on a dime into a wide open chorus. On the post-punk “Metaphorically Speaking,” Jendayi and co spin one of their best hooks “here you go again / trying to understand the world through a box of chocolate truffles.” On future-single “Under The Rug,” the band's anthemic chorus builds over an unassuming guitar riff into a call and response outro that's undeniable. The Get To Know EP premieres in January, so download the lead single and get hooked. This is definitely a band you want to know.
