free download: mnek has us hooked on “every little word”

April 22, 2014

Lewisham native MNEK’s name might not initially set off alarms for you, but if you’re into the UK pop/dance scene then you’ve surely two-stepped to a track or two of his making. MNEK (pronounced Em-En-Ee-Kay) has spun some of his plenteous magic and whipped up hit singles for UK rapper Tinie Tempah, Roc Nation’s Kylie Minogue, singer/songwriter Misha B and hit the top spot twice with both X-Factor girl group Little Mix and Future Records signee A*M*E. He also received a Grammy nod this year for the cracking job he did on Duke Dumont’s “Need U”. At just 19, the gifted artisan has already landed himself a major deal after being scooped up by Virgin EMI. His newest solo offering “Every Little Word” is doing the rounds this week and gobbling up enamored fans along the way. His abilities as a multifaceted artist shine through as he delivers the tune with a confident, laid back fashion. Simply put… MNEK does it all. The single ‘Every Little Word’ dabbles 90’s r&b bass with heavy synths.

‘Don’t Call This Love’ is an equally emotional offering but more downbeat. In the video (which gives us the acoustic version), he stands in a dimly room, holding his mic and pouring himself into his lyrics and the keyboard player sits behind him tapping out empathetic notes. Never once meeting each other’s gaze. If it weren’t so ingenious it would be sad but it is so everybody’s happy!
There is an album coming later on this year, a date has not yet been confirmed publicly. In the meantime, you can enjoy this video and marvel at his epically precise high top.
