Mexican born artist, revolutionary, feminist, painter, legendary artist and RIOT GIRRRL Frida Kahlo is poignant reminder of how powerful, self-awareness is for women. She was before her time, and we now benefit of the knowledge and lessons she learned and shared through her art and politics. Frida, best known as a painter, often painted portraits of herself more than any other subject. Because a spinal injury from an accident in her teens, she spent much of her time alone and said that it was because she was alone so often, SHE herself was the subject she knew best.

This is a sentiment that should be most obvious with powerful women, especially in these modern times. We are the owners of our own thoughts and bodies, which seems like a simple enough idea. But when we are self-aware of our own power and sense of self, these simple things become easier to protect. There is a freedom in knowing yourself, and staying true to that.

Her life story is vast, interesting and has had a lasting impact on our generation and many to come. For her sense of revolution in the 3rd world, her voice being heard through speech and art, as well as her passion for those and WHAT she loved and believed it, we salute Frida Kahlo as a RIOT GIRRRL!
