hip hop hijabis- a powerful documentary that needs your help!

Poetic Pilgrimage are Sukina and Muneera, two friends who met and bonded over singing and their Jamaican heritage. Both hailing from Bristol, UK Muneera is the DJ, Sukina is the singer, and they are both emcees. Through their close friendship and converting to Islam in 2005 after their studying of Malcolm X, they developed Poetic Pilgrimage – a spoken word and Hip Hop duo on fire! But women performances in Islam aren’t exactly, um, allowed.

And that’s the whole point. Their message and lyrics are to sing for the unsung, and bring light to women’s issues in the Islamic faith. The film chronicles 3 years with the ladies, their lives, journey’s and inevitable struggles along the way.
