Silly question it might seem since I'm on a website called AfroPunk but like Webster there might not be just one simple definition. When I was younger I guess you could say my friends were punk or goth. I also associated myself as being apart of this culture. Although I associated myself with being punk/ goth I rarely ever listened to "punk music" which for many defines the punk culture. I myself personally loved RnB Neo-Soul all the stereotypical black eclectic music which still put me in a category by myself. The thing is I loved wearing black putting different chains and buttons all over my clothing and doing crazy stuff to my hair and makeup. I was very interested in tattoos and piercings as more of an art instead of a pop culture kinda thing. To me punk was always an attitude how you carried yourself not necessarily what others tired to define. So what is punk? I have no clue ...
(So my comma button doesn't work thus there are a lot of comma splices sue me...)

Comment by Lightning Pill on January 21, 2013 at 11:17am I've come down to the conclusion that punk is simply the chance to fight against the norm or the assumption that the norm gives about people who aren't like the majority. It's not just the idea to truly be yourself in a world where most people don't know who they are, but the ability to make yourself counted, even when no one really acknowledges your ability to find your place in the world. Punks are the sticks in the spokes of ignorance, cruelty, and various other things that make up the common. It's also about not being discouraged when you aren't counted amongst the people more often.

Punk to me is living outside of the boundaries, the labels, and all the shit that society uses to try to put people in a box for control. Control your own punk ass freaky self (LOL) and you will never have to worry about where you fit in or what you are ever again!
