indie film “pearl rain” is part-fantasy, part-romance, and all #blackgirlmagic, support their crowdfunding campaign today!

October 13, 2016

The indie film game is booming for Black filmmakers right now and director Jumai Yusuf is bringing her world to the screen. Her latest project, “PEARL RAIN,” is a fantasy/romance short film blending West African myth and European fairytale. The main character Morayo, a spiritual Black woman, is stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship. When she meets a kindred soul who can appreciate her black girl magic, will she finally find the strength to leave? The story of Morayo is an adaptation of Yoruba folklore. Inspired by the Orishas present in her culture’s religious traditions, Jumai is forging a new path for representation of native religions with dignity and respect through magical realism. Now, she’s hoping to gain some financial support to finish the post-production for the film. Consider helping this amazing filmmaker see her project to fruition!
