AFROPUNK

... the other Black experience

Everyone's understandably mad about satirical paper The Onion calling child actress Quvenzhané Wallis a cunt in their (now deleted) Tweet.
Which brought us to another question: Is a small child's place in ego-driven Hollywood (or any type of show business), trying to "make it" and entertaining people? Is this highly-competitive image driven environment a place to feel safe as a kid? Are children really happy there, or unconsciously trying to fulfill their parents' dreams and expectations? (including those who end up "making it big" - re: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyonce, etc.).

It seems to me that the kids who have their parents keeping them safe & grounded while in the entertainment business are just fine. I believe that the foundation at home has everything to do with it all. There are those who at a very early age find themselves interested in the arts. Some of them are successful and as they grow up decide not to continue and some continue while making sure to get an education and have a backup plan. If any of us live our lives to make someone else happy, we're going to run into problems.
