AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

I have been at Occupy Wall St for 5 weeks. On Monday it will be my 6th week.

I hate it here.

This movement has been co-opted by men. For example, I am at a women's safety meeting that has had all of the agenda items bottom-lined by men.

The needs of the people are being addressed by people who have no idea. Middle-class people to whom the concept of poverty is a distant concept. Illustrated by their lack of compassion for individuals. For example, the working groups attempted to convince the working groups to do a partial shut down to flush out "undesirables".

That is crazy as hell.

If an individual wants to freeze themselves in a park, for an unarticulated purpose oridea, we should support them. I work in Comfort Community (comfortcommunity.wordpress.com) We are not going to stop handing out blankets to freezing people. I don't care what they do. No one has a right to judge a person's personal choice.

Everyone has a place in the struggle. Now is not the time to invoke privilege.

"Flush out undesirables" What kind of protest are they running? Anyway I think their should be a universal head of the protests. Someone honest, trustworthy, reliable, intelligent and a leader. A world wide OWS vote would sound good and if not that just make it state side. Sounds good?
