Music seems to be one of the most common ways to raise awareness on devastating issues, so it's always dope when artists use their influences and creativity for a good cause. Case in point, most recently,Mos Defand New Orleans jazz artist,Ben Jaffe, got together to write a song for Gulf Aid benefit for those affected by the oil spill. According to a report in USA Today, after watching oil executives blame each other for the spill during congressional hearings, rapper Mos Def (who recently headlined the Afro-punk 2010 festival) was inspired to write words for a potential song. In a rather blues meets rap mash session, they recorded the song with Lenny Kravitz, Trombone Shorty, TIm Robbins and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The studio style video isn't a fancy production, but gets the point across. The song's title, "It Ain't My Fault!"
Proceeds (audio and video downloads are 99 cents) will go to the Gulf Relief Foundation (gulfaid.org), which will direct the aid to families in need and to wetlands preservation, says producer Stephen Rehage of Rehage Entertainment. Check out the video below.
