NOTE: There are misspellings and punctuation errors in this note but these are my random thoughts that I just put down. This note is more like an informal journal.
I have done so many research (well not really classified as "research") and have found that different cultures, just people in general, seem to have misconceptions about the other( that's a "no duh" statement, i know). They generalize based on what they "feel" is the truth about others and as a result will not seem to take the time to see where the other side is coming from or if those notions are "true". Its really sad to hear and read comments by people from different sites, videos, and hearing them personally and to tell you the truth I agree and disagree with all sides. It seems people tend to categorize things based on what they experience, heard from parents or peers, media, or what is "statistically" common. I believe when it comes to people and personalities there should not be a "common" things or anything such as that
. I believe to categorize a personality no matter if it is common amongst a group is ignorant and in the end will only hurt you. Not everything that looks the same is the same, there are still differences. Race should be something that is put in the back of the mind when judging though that is something that will not come easy if one has been exposed and became use to using race as a factor to knowing someone. It is more a human thing then anything being within a certain culture. We all have discrimination against Black, Whites, Asians, Latinos, different nationalities, religions, sexual origination, (even within the gay community there is discrimination as to who is really a "positive" representation of homosexuality; this factor also applies to race and religion when it comes to who within are considered a "disgrace".) hair texture, color, style of clothing, gender, etc. In one form or another everyone has discriminated against something whether its human or not. Maybe judgement is a human things that is inevitable to get rid of but is it controllable? can we catch ourselves when we judge and categorize and change course?
I believe so. I have judged and discriminated against many things throughout my young life and vise versa. But I have thought myself to try and catch myself when I do fall prey to ignorance such as those. The reason there is war and other fights between different groups is simply because of differences and not knowing how to react or not having enough knowledge (or want for that matter) to study and see what the other side is coming from. So it is not just one particular group of people who needs to open their minds but humans period. This, in my opinion, is such a hard thing to do and even with practice, human beings can not fully master. there will always be something that one disagrees with which, if uneducated, unwilling to be open minded, and fearful of the outcome, will lead to hate. ignorance leads to fear of what you dont understand, fear leads to judgement, judgement towards others can lead to resent ment, resentment to anger, anger to hatred, and eventually war.
I don't know if anyone agrees with all I am saying, part of what I'm saying, non, or if they even understand what I am saying in order to make a conclusion but this is how my young mind process the world as of now. As I live on and hopefully learn more my mentality will change of course but this is a "as of" thing. I believe being judgmental is as natural as breathing and taking a piss but I also believe hating and wanting to hurt is something that is taught. Though war is usually forged by being judgmental, I believe it is a whole new level of judging. To me when you add the will to not learn into the mixture it sends off a chemical reaction. Like I said before being judgmental is natural but when you are not willing to learn more about a subject and you place your judgement as being infinite, then thats when blood starts to shed, hatred is formed, and misunderstandings are tolerated.
So I guess what I am saying is that when you judge something do more research about it and see different perspectives before you place your judgement as being completely right. challenge yourself. When it comes to classifying a certain group's "personality" it is hard and not smart in my opinion to even do that because yes culture do shape our personality but not everyone is the same. I have many friends who are Christians but don't condemn gays, who came from a racist family but have friends and dates outside of their race, who is black but don't like hot sauce, rap, and can speak correct English, and others who are examples that it is better to classify people separately instead of as a whole. That way you wont miss out on someone or something that you would not have experienced or had the chance to meet other wise if your had categorized.
