Coming Up This Week:
Tue 2/9: A Nation Of Misfits with Nathan Leigh
Wed 2/10: Strip Tease (cartoon) with Keith Knight
Thu 2/11: The World According To Alzo
Fri 2/12: Friday Feminist Funk
And here is what we have in store for you in upcoming weeks (more features to be added soon, so stay tuned!):

"Strip Tease" with Keith Knight

Just when we thought comics were a novelty of the past, we found cartoonist, Keith Knight, who has the dopest collection work called the "K Chronicles." Based out of San Fransisco, Keith's cartoons are a single-panel glimpse of current events and politics impaction communities of color.

"Bread and Butter" with Darkness Unlimited

Here at Afro-punk, we love Darkness Unlimited. Staying true to the core of punk, he somehow manages to always piss someone off in online forum discussion by saying whatever, whenever he feels-- we love that. And if you thought his ode to D.C. sniper, John Allen Muhammad was outrageous, wait until you hear what he has to say about President Obama, pop culture, and the future of the entertainment industry.
*In "Bread and Butter," Darkness gives us his colorful take on the most pressing issues to him in the news, holding nothing back.

"A Nation of Misfits" with Nathan Leigh

We all know how folks categorize punks. We're the kids who look differently, dress differently, and will more than likely try to light something on fire. So it's strange that in the 30+ years that punk has been alive (and grappling with its existence) the music has evolved into a fairly homogenized sound. While every band has
their own variation on the formula, the one-two punch of the kick-snare beat, a rapid-fire picked bass line, twin guitars heavily distorted through a Marshall half-stack, and rousing gang-vocals on the choruses-- the sounds are all but ubiquitous.
*Introducing, "A Nation of Misfits." Our featured columnist, Nathan Leigh, will focus on the misfits within the punk community; the bands that don't sound like the others; the bands that rebel against the rebels. Yep, the sub-genre of the sub-genre of the sub-genre.

"Antidote for Ignorance" with Benjamin Adams

If the word "politics" sends a looming chill of boredom and contemplative depression, you're not alone. Many people fear looking like a terrorist, so they don't admit to not fully grasping American policies or the under workings of the judicial system. Instead, when a policy conversation arises, most people understand
about 15 percent of what's really going on and for the other 85 percent -- put on the look of concern meets constipation face to appear really moved by the conversation at hand. The reality is, a looming amount of the information fed to the American people is loaded with convoluted text, and the real messages get lost in
translation. The true question becomes, how can we begin to fight for change in America, if we don't even understand the policies that limit us?
*In "Antidote for Ignorance," columnist and history buff, Benjamin Adams will take current bills and policies and break them down for everyone (in the privacy of their homes, of course) to understand what lawmakers are really saying between the lines. And don't worry, we won't tell anyone if you secretly read his
work.

"Dorm Room Diaries of a Fem Nerd" with Twyla Cummings

College is a time for people to discover their individuality and purpose in life, all while trying to make friends, dates, and decent grades. So what happens when you're a die-hard feminist who practices your own religion at a private historically black college? Who knows, but featured blogger, Twyla Cummings, will
reveal her take on college life while staying true to her no bull-shit approach on female empowerment. *In "Dorm Room Diaries of a Fem Nerd," Twyla will highlight or trash a topic in the feminism community and give her take on what life is like at a HBCU.

"T.O.B.E aka The Other Black Experience

Mainstream media would make us think that being Black means being a pimp or a ho. Well obviously we're not having that! Here we'll be showcasing outstanding Black individuals, their achievements, their lifestyle and more. People who do cool stuff for their community, people who succeed where they're not expected to, people who break boundaries, you name it!

"Ask a White Girl" with White Girl

Ever wonder if all white people really like Conan O' Brien or if some white people can dance, but try not out of fear they will look too ethnic? Well, if you've ever had a question that you wanted to ask a white person, but were too afraid to end up in jail on an ignorance clause, you can ask our featured blogger, who we've creatively named, White Girl. *E-mail her your questions or concerns at askawhitegirl@afropunk.com. Twice a month, White Girl will answer several of the most interesting questions e-mailed to her and we will feature them on afropunk.com. So, go ahead, ask away!
