new “magnifiquenoir” comic series celebrates black queer girl magic

February 14, 2017

Briana Lawrence’s (aka Brichibi Cosplay) new book series “magnifiqueNOIR” is the story of black queer girls who use galactic powers to defend their city from opposing forces, promote self-love, acceptance and encouragement, and celebrate all things glitter and baked goods. Heavily influenced by anime staple Sailor Moon, “magnifiqueNOIR” “weaves in the various issues that young, black women face — particularly black women on the queer spectrum.” To help bring the first installment of the series, “I Am Magical”, to fruition, Lawrence is raising funds through Indiegogo. Artwork for the book will be completed by various artist in various styles, check out some examples below!
