new music: dj and songstress lindsey hearkens back to the 80’s with her new single, ‘jack’

August 5, 2015

Have a listen to the brand new single from New York DJ and songstress Lindsey – ‘Jack’ (produced by The Twilite Tone and Sammy Bananas). A fixture on the NY party scene, Lindsey is known for being the co-creator of the influential Negroclash party (which explored African Americans’ contributions to electronic music) and a host of other popular club nights. Her latest release (one for the summer) is inspired by the sound of the 80s – Lindsey states: “When I started this it was a part of a larger project with The Twilite Tone and we both love ’80s r&b and dance music. Particularly where both of those things intersect. We would sit and listen to Dynasty, Loose Ends, Lil Louis, Mr. Fingers, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk and Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley. It was really fun and it helped us find a little spot where we wanted our stuff to be, not too old, not too modern”. Listen below. And catch Lindsey on the decks at this year’s AFROPUNK NYC Fest.
