new music: dreadlox holmes and collaborators celebrate the essence of blackness with “fro be it”

April 14, 2016

“Fro Be It” is an R&B Soul track from Dreadlox Holmes feat. Jessica Kungz, Empress Emelda, Chi Ankh, and Osmaus. The easy-listening, funk-infused song that began as a poem by British artist Empress Emelda before making its way to friend Dreadlox Holmes, a Paris-based producer/songwriter/guitarist who added an additional verse and composed the music. Conceptually, Emelda was inspired to write the original pome while researching her family tree and sorting her feelings about being of African and European descent. “I flipped the famous Shakespearean quote “So be it” into a black power slogan using the iconic of all black symbols, the afro,” Emelda tells AFROPUNK.

“Fro Be It” is a beautiful and loving collaboration that celebrates the essence of blackness and encourages others to be proud of that. “The immediate vision for “Fro Be It” is to inspire Black people to accept who they are. To wear their identity on their sleeves, be proud of their Blackness,” says Holmes.
