new music: miami rapper toby shares new ep ‘seiteicos’ adding a political, indie spin to an old sound

July 27, 2016

The latest EP from Miami- based lyrical rapper ToBy comes just in time. With his patterned enunciations and rhythmic commentary reminiscent of an early Childish Gambino, the messages throughout his multi-layered orchestrations provide an entertaining platform for connection and influence. ToBy’s ‘SEITEICOS’ – Societies spelled backwards- is a truly blended experience; melding various cultures and covering each track with subtle yet prominent political undertones. One track in particular, ‘Dru’s interlude #BlackLivesMatter'(written and performed by Dupreme) tackles the realities of a society at war with itself; portraying the emotional effects from the perspective of another young brown man. The spaciousness of ToBy to exclusively feature artists, and politically fueled artists at that, illuminates his commitment to the movement and all of its participants. Musically diverse and relatable in content, ‘SEITEICOS’ is ToBy’s activism, and it speaks volumes. Check out the new EP below.
