new music: obnox blurs lines at maximum volume on “gunpowder blow (redux)” #soundcheck

February 1, 2016

Blurring lines at maximum volume is Obnox’s whole deal. The Cleveland-based multi-instrumentalist and producer has been kicking around for a few years now, making music that defies categorization. It’s punk. It’s hip-hop. It’s soul. It’s industrial. It’s fucking loud. His latest, a remix of “Gunpowder Blow” from his recent Know America album is a noisy, defiant cut about police violence. Driven by a Jesus Lizard sample that double-meta-name-checks Steve Albini, Obnox intones “they say don’t focus on the negative / but it surrounds me where I live.”
