After the long struggle to bring punk rock pioneers Death’s classic recordings to light, the band finally released their first album of new material in 2015. In the 2 years since N.E.W. Death has been almost constantly on the road, while the world has been brought to the brink of another World War by the rising tide of hard right nationalist demagogue demogorgons. So it’s fitting that the band’s latest single calls for a “Cease Fire.” The song finds frontman Bobby Hackney marrying some of his Lambsbread energy to Death’s trademark Detroit hard rock, with a slower tempo and driving synth line. “Cease Fire” is a strong reminder why the legend of Death continues. It’s a song the world needs to hear right now.
