Check out Chimurenga Renaissance's new track 'Girlz with Gunz'. Chimurenga Renaissance is a blend of intergalactic zaps and beeps swirled together with funk, Congolese guitar, Zimbabwean beats, and conscious hip-hop. Chimurenga Renaissance is (currently) made up of American-based African musicians Tendai Maraire, of Shabazz Palace, and guitarist Hussein Kalonji (formally H-Bomb). 'Girlz With Gunz' tells the story of Grace, a trained killer who fought in The Second Chimurenga.
"['Girlz With Gunz'] is inspired by women like my cousin, Grace. She was once a girl with a gun. She was trained to kill her oppressors. She wanted to build and live in a better world. Peace always has a price," writes cultural critic Charles Tonderai Mudede. 'Girlz With Gunz' comes out Feb. 5.
