Ntozake Shange or Racquel Brazer???

About a week ago, team Afro-Punk thought we hit the jackpot. We got an amazing pic and seemingly reliable endorsement that the woman in it was playwright Ntozake Shange. “Badass woman in badass pic?!” we thought, “Hell. Yes.”

But when the pic went up, in the comments some of you pointed out we were mistaken, and even gave us a name: Racquel Brazer. In that week’s highlights, the picture went up a second time— and its “wtf? This is Racquel y’all. Seriously.”-themed comment thread grew. There was even debate amongst ourselves. The Google was consulted, and re-consulted. Mutual friends of Shange’s were txted. Racquel’s kick-ass blog was obsessively combed for the picture. Money may even have changed hands in a bet. (We’re a strong-minded crew.)

Finally, Racquel herself stepped in to say that the pic is of her. We’d like to apologize to her for the MIXUP, and we solemnly promise we’ll never do it again. If you haven’t seen it yet, definitely check out her blog and her o.d. style:

AP is cooler for correcting themselves on a boo boo. Racquel was even cooler for not being too upset about it. Wow!
