“selfies”: signs of pride or “cry for help”?

November 29, 2013

AP Fam, what’s your take on the whole “selfie” madness?
Some say they’re empowering and a sign a pride. Some say they’re a cry for help.
What’s the deal? Pride or desperate narcissism? (i.e. “a devastatingly vulnerable person, compensating for a deeply imprinted inadequacy with a desperate need for admiration” – quote from ‘Narcissism: The Malady of Me’, The New York Times – nytimes.com).
The Oxford dictionary defines “selfie”: “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website” – and as used in a sentence: “occasional selfies are acceptable, but posting a new picture of yourself every day isn’t necessary”.
🙂 Ain’t that something.
Let us know what you think.
