#SoundCheck: Blues Rocker Danielia Cotton Hits Us With Live Video, New Single

Singer/songwriter Danielia Cotton dropped her first record Small White Town (inspired by her hometown of Hopewell, New Jersey) in 2005. Equal parts classic rock and blues, but with a gospel tinge, she makes the kind of music that shakes something deep in your soul. It's timeless without feeling retro. It's been a few years since her last release (2008's Rare Child), but Danielia and her eponymous band are back and getting ready to put out their newest The Gun In Your Hand.

They've just leaked the first track: “Deep Dark Love.” It's a slow burning blues number; built around a deep distorted riff out of the Tom Morello playbook. (And I don't mean his current “Hey guys, I really like Woody Guthrie!” era...) In an age of hyper-processed auto-tuned-to-perfection-or-your-money-back vocals, Danielia's are boldly and unashamedly naked. Her giant rasp soars, and she's not afraid to let it crack when she's feeling it. Her voice has always been her biggest asset, and she uses her full range on this one. Her backing band is tight as ever, their ruthless, overdriven stomp keeping Cotton's stratospheric voice grounded. The full record is currently slated for release September 18th.
