#soundcheck: keep it lo-fi! punk rock trio 3jane shred it up on their new single “barrel.”

January 6, 2014

The basements of New Brunswick, New Jersey have always been a source for great punk rock. The latest is the combustible 3Jane, whose 2013 single “Barrel” showcases a razer-sharp ferocity. The band’s angular anger evokes classic Gravity Records bands like Heroin and Mohinder. Singer / bassist Nneka’s torn-throated scream claims your attention and refuses to let go.

Between 3Jane’s 2011 demo EP, and this latest single, the band shows a lot of range, going from sludge to straight ahead punk rock, to post-hardcore. Nneka’s plea and denunciation of societal normalcy in “Normal” is a true punk rock anthem.

Both their EP and single are available as free downloads through the Bandcamp players above. In a more just world, it’d be available on 7” too.
