south african designer floyd avenue shows off sleek androgynous aesthetic

March 7, 2017

Floyd Avenue Clothing is a culturally-inspired androgynous fashion label created by Soweto-based designer Floyd Manotana aka Floyd Avenue. Discovered by New York-based designer Jenny Lai and her photography collaborator Chris Saunder, Manotana’s work, along with his creative collective The Smarteez, were given a platform through Saunder’s lens. Lai describes the genius of Manotana’s creative process as “stealth improvisation” that pays spontaneous—and then precise—attention to detail. Currently, Manotana is designing pieces for his Floyd Avenue Clothing brand and his hat collection, Follow The Rabbi Hat.
