AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Spider - the punkest man I ever met.

Spider was the punkest man on earth until he passed away in the middle of February. I was privileged enough to know Spider during my formative years, and he is one of the most influential people I know personally. (lol interviewed him for a hi school english project - was the most famous person I knew...lol) He devoted the last 20 years of his life to making life a little punker for the kids of backwoods Ontario. Spider taught me to live life on my own terms, accept everyone for who they are, and party like its going out of style! Here is a video for a new song by the Restarts about Spider, with a little photo montage of our little scene that Spider built and nurtured. He was our punk rock grand-daddy...and we will miss him dearly. Enjoy the video:

Here is some random zany shit that someone nicely put together at one of Spider's parties:

and an article in the local paper too:

I wish you all could have met him. We are trying to resurrect his yearly punk party legacy though, so i will keep the AP community posted about upcoming Canadian backwoods punk mayhem!

Oi, Andrew!
Please do keep us informed of SpiderFest. I'll try to attend!
If Spider attended any of the shows and parties of the Toronto Punk scene between the mid-1980s and early 1990s I probably met him. Unfortunately I cannot recall meeting him. Wish I had; from your writing and the video links he seems to have been extremely kind, positive, free-thinking and successful in his rallying of Punkers and organizing of fun gigs and parties!
You're very fortunate to have had such an elder! May he now be resting in peace.
The ReStarts' musical tribute to Spider "Pied Piper Of Punk Rock" is impressive, the lyrics are fantastic (glad the subtitles were posted with the video).
Thanks for the post, mate!
