Tattoo Of The Week: Sasha's Eye & Talisman

While many professional models often shy away from getting inked, Sasha Thompson found herself a loophole. My favorite tattoo is Sasha's inner lip tattoo of an eye, "Mal de Ojo", which was done on the show, Ink Masters. It can't be seen unless she pulls down on her bottom lip to reveal it. In many cultures, it is believed that the way someone looks at you can inflict a curse. The eye tattoo symbolizes the protection against that negative energy, which definitely comes in handy when you are aiming for success! Many argue that the inner lip tattoo is useless because it can fade quickly. I think for an inner lip tattoo it's a creative idea and awesome placement, especially for a working model. Sasha continued the theme of reinforcing positive energy with her own favorite tattoo, a henna like talisman on her hand that she designed to represent strength and courage. Although, it is way more visible than her lip tat, it still comes off very beautiful and feminine in her photographs.

-How many tattoos do you have? I have four tattoos, three of which very cohesive to one another - so I internally debate whether or not they should just be considered one piece haha. I have Claw marks on the knuckles on my left hand accompanied by an intricate henna-like piece. I have the Zodiac symbols of my immediate family on my wrist/forearm with the words “Strength and Courage” on either side written in a language called Enochian.  There are 29 solid dots throughout the whole tattoo for my birthday which is July 29th. I also have an eye tattooed on my inner lip, "Mal de Ojo", which in many cultures believe it protects you from evil.

-Which one is your favorite? Why? My favorite would have to be my hand tattoo. I designed the tattoo myself. I wanted something I was sure no one could duplicate! I did extensive research on Indian, Native American and Norse Cultured and fused that to create a personal talisman of sorts. The tattoo itself represents the time, nature, happiness – as well as strength, courage and perseverance.  It means a great deal to me.

-Why should we feature your tattoo? I like to think my tattoo is something unique and Its something that took me a very long time to design. I truly believe that strength and courage are two traits that are necessary to get through life - The strength to move forward and the courage to face adversity. I just think it would be nice to share a symbol of what I believe in.

How old were you when you first got your tattoo? I was 20 years old. My first tattoo was actually the claw marks on my knuckles. They were done on a whim. I drew on myself with a marker, liked how they looked and I just so happened to be in the residence of a practicing tattoo artist!

-Do you particular tattoo artist you go to? have a If yes, where is he/she located? Website? No, I don’t go to a particular tattoo artist. A couple of cool things to take note of are that my hand tattoo was worked on by Jon Mesa who was featured on the show Best Ink and my eye tattoo was done by Jamie Davies on Spike Tv’s Inkmasters.

-Do you regret any tattoos you have? No I don’t regret any of my tattoos –  I love each of them for what they represent. I can’t wait to get more in the future ;)

I like reading the stories behind tattoos. its pointless to get a tattoo because  that particular design is  popular at the moment.
