Tattoo of the week: What's a little ink on the neck

Neck tattoos are daring and come with lots of unusual stereotypes that imply dangerous antics and trouble. Our featured tattoo this week, Shantel Haynes, says she is breaking that stereotype with her neck ink of her mother's name in cursive. Currently residing in Miami, Florida, Shantel is an artist who got her first tattoo at 20. She now has three and has no regrets with getting her mother's name on her neck. Shantel, for your daring tattoo spot, we feature you this week. And don't forget, if you would like to have your tattoo featured on afropunk.com, please submit your pictures to whitney@afropunk.com.

Who are you?
My name is Shantel Haynes , better know as Moecah99 on Youtube.

Age
21 years old

Location
Born & raised in Kansas City, Mo I now reside in Miami, Florida

Occupation
Im a student/artist

Number of tattoos
I have three tattoos currently

Favorite one
That's hard to say as all my tattoos have great meaning to me. But i would have to say my tattoo "Frankie" , my mother's name.

When and where did you get it?
I received this tattoo in Feb. of 2009 by a local tattoo artist.

What does it mean to you?
It means everything to me, it being my mother's name and it being my very first tattoo. I wanted to place it in a spot that was delicate and supposedly very painful. In honor of all the things my mother's endured.

How old were you when you got your first tattoo?
I was 20 years old

What is the biggest misconception people have about you because of your tattoos?
Maybe that i'm a rebel or "ghetto girl" but i just love the craft of the tattoo world. Oh yeah and that I'm a lesbian lol.

Why should we feature your tattoo?
Because it took a lot of guts to get my first tattoo on my neck, and I know alot of people can relate to my personal reasons of why I got the tattoo.

Do you have a particular tattoo artist you go to?
I go to a self taught artist named Kaso he's located in south florida, very talented and cool.

Have you ever received a tattoo under the influence of drugs or alcohol?
No never

Do you regret any tattoos you have?
No i don't have any regrets

Are you a tattoo addict?
I wouldn't say addict but I have a love for them that is for sure
