the history and culture of punk-reggae band bad brains is commemorated with exhibition at l.a.’s subliminal projects

August 3, 2016

The history, culture, and influence of punk-reggae band Bad Brains is currently being displayed as ‘Banned In Babylon: The Art and Culture of Bad Brains’ at L.A.’s SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS, in partnership with OBEY CLOTHING. The fine arts show, which is on exhibit July 23, 2016 – August 20, 2016, features performance photography of the band from as far back as 1979 taken by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Lucian Perkins, Brains super-fan John Mousheghian, and Jeannie “Aunt Jean” Pawlowski, sketches and paintings by Bad Brains founder/producer/bassist/composer Darryl Jenifer, mixed-media paintings and prints by Shepard Fairey, and vintage and rare memorabilia, flyers, posters, and records. Check out some of the exhibition’s artworks, below, and if you’re in L.A., stop by SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS through August 20 to see ‘Banned In Babylon: The Art and Culture of Bad Brains’ in person.

Catch members of Bad Brains at AFROPUNK Brooklyn 2016 in a Powerjam alongside Living Colour and Fishbone Aug. 28.
