... the other Black experience

I hate being so isolated. I've felt that way forever but I think it has finally gotten to me. I hate not being around anyone that can relate to me. I'm 32 and its another year feeling the same as I always felt. I live in an area where there's not one damn black person around. And even if I lived near another black person I'm always called 'white' for listening to rock music. Wearing rock tees would breed snickers in the past. I can remember it now making my first ever mistake at 12 years old in front of my mom and her friends when asked the dreaded question, ''What do you listen to?" with a smile, ''Henry Rollins Band''  to get back crackles of laughter and my mom having to ask them to excuse me because I've been around too many white friends. It still hurts. But I'm more independent and self assured now. But I wish sometimes I had a place to call home where I'm understood a little more. Where im not the token black guy. To fit in for once in my life....
