video premiere: singer-songwriter rebecca jordan explores identity, courage, and loneliness, with new song and visual – ‘anchor’

October 13, 2015

Today we’re premiering the new visual from NYC based singer Rebecca Jordan – an established songwriter who co-wrote 6 songs on Alice Smith’s album, and has had other songs recorded by the likes of Prince. The video (directed by Brian Caiazza) is for the song ‘Anchor’ from Jordan’s new album, Asphalt Heart. She tells us, “As a songwriter, it’s imperative I use my imagination. For me, imagination is not about trying to transcend yourself, it’s about discovering yourself. The seeking of this elusive space where one can feel free – that is where art lives. That is what anchor speaks to. The song started in my dreams, as a stream of consciousness collage of experiences, history, the news, etc. The song is about many things – identity, courage, loneliness, hope, the long haul, how to hold on to a light in the dark – art gets to go where we physically cannot – all of that found it’s way into the song and the video.” She also reveals that the song was tracked live: “…as were all the songs on the album, ‘Asphalt Heart’. We tracked that way because that’s how the songs came to life after they were written, from us playing them at our shows and in jams at rehearsal. I wanted the recordings to be rooted in that same heartfelt, spontaneous, and collective spirit.” Check out the video below.
