video premiere: uk electronica artist megatronic questions gentrification and reps for east london in “oi” video

March 3, 2017

In 2012, Megane Quashie went solo and spread her wings in a declarative ascension, donning the new name Megatronic. The singer/songwriter was previously known for her success with the British/French electro pop band, Black Cherry but she felt the need to assert her voice in a new way. Providing a colorful palette of lush lyrics, molasses melodies and stunning stage presence, the indie starlet is back with “Oi,” a video and track commemorating the beauty and history of Hackney, her home and favorite part of London, a place that is suffering cultural drain from gentrification. The video is a celebration of all that Hackney is and could be, even in the midst of these changes. Off her latest EP released “Bad Girl, Good Intentions” on Feel Up Records, “Oi” is sure to be a banger echoing throughout East London and beyond for quite some time.
