visual artist dareece walker: race matters!

Race in America is too important to ignore and Black representation in classical artwork is scarce to none if acknowledged at all. Artist Dareece Walker makes sure he creates a tone for those muted and ignored, through communicating his honest opinions, struggle, peace and freedom in his artwork, forcing viewers to engage in dialogue about social injustice and issues he chooses to represent.

Like many Blacks in America, enduring slander and racial inequality, Dareece reverses the evil intent of all prejudice encounters he has faced only to ignite inspiration within himself to help teach generations after him.

“I was told as a boy, from family and teachers and other adults, ‘Your life will be harder because you are a Black man’. If that’s true, then I must strive to make the world better for the next generation of Black men, so that a lack of self-confidence and discrimination can no longer be a hindrance. I’m inspired by the future, and what can be.”

Although social commentary and political critique may cause many to backlash, and feel uneasy about their beliefs in systems they’ve nested in, Dareece Walker is honored by the fact his artwork causes people to think a different way then they once did as well as defend what they believe to be right. These raw and figurative paintings live through the eyes of not only Dareece Walker but many Blacks who witnesses the same depictions of honor, injustice, and struggle through his eyes who have lived in the past, present and in the future.
