This video piece is about being a Black woman in the punk scene.
It features AP member Symphony, among others, and members of band Ninjasonik (they're playing the 2012 Afropunk Festival by the way!).
We would like to know: what has been your experience as a Black woman in the punk scene?

No one understood me growing up. I would get on the bus and people would call me the weird black girl.
Comment by Victoria Antoine on June 26, 2012 at 12:28am Personally in my teen years i was into SKA and punk rock. most black kids did not understand me. I would go to shows like 3 times a months. Its all about music.
Comment by symphony on June 24, 2012 at 6:14am <3 so glad this is getting some views. thanks ya'll.
Comment by HeartOfAMetalhead on June 22, 2012 at 11:19pm It's almost like some black kids are scared to try punk music because of what they were raised to believe. Most black kids aren't raised on rock/punk at all
Comment by Kristen Kimira Scott on June 22, 2012 at 11:02am This is what I said when the pic was posted on facebook: "when I'm raving at a punk concert, a TON of Caucasians come up to me and want to be my best friend lol"
I made that comment for when I go to Austin for concerts. I'm from Houston and it's not as bad as it was before when it comes to being black and in the punk scene. But when I go to Austin, it's a totally different story. It's not diverse there at all. Long story short, there's usually just a sprinkle of blacks where I go. I know there are more of us out there, I just wish we'd show our faces more.
Comment by Shemaiah Sturdivant on June 22, 2012 at 12:42am She's right when she says geography plays a part. Being in the Midwest , alot of people get shocked when they see someone black , especially female , at a show.
Comment by PhEbE Bee Machine on June 21, 2012 at 2:43pm great music. Hope to see more of this
