What if God was one of us? Part 2;)
One of the fundamental propeties of my philosophy is that I am not a believer in blind faith. "I don't believe it until I see it." That's my motto. This is not to say that everything I believe(And thus, everything I have seen) is the nature of reality. BUT, if I am to believe in something other than what I have seen, I must first see it. I especially mean this spiritually. I would love to believe that the spirit continues to live after death, in ghosts, angels, demons, and ultimately that there is a higher power. But, would you put your faith in a total stranger, to save your life, and lead you in the right direction? Well, I don't know about you...But I most certainly would not. Most of you have heard my tale of the Evasons. When I was a student at Centenary college of Louisiana in, I believe, two thousand...six-2007, I saw them perform. The entire night, they amazed an audience filled with my fellow classmates, and other folk...
Rattling off serial numbers from dollar bills, phone numbers off of cell phones, etc etc. But I was still skeptical. I thought there might be hidden cameras. One of the things they did, which made me believe that there is something, is that they brought a girl from my class onto the stage. She had a twin sister in the audience. They needed someone who had a close relative that had passed away. Putting a white sheet behind her...They took a picture with an instant camera. They had the audience come to the stage in order to see the image, as it developed. In the picture, above the image of the girl from my class, was an old woman. It was slightly blurry, but the fact that it was an old woman, w/ curly hair, and glasses, if I remember correctly, was unmistakable. Said girl from my class was visibly shooken, and later, when I went to her room, she showed me a real picture of her grandmother before she died. And, sure enough, the pictures matched. Although Mike/Jerry have informed me of technology which can be used in order to show how the person in question would look if they were____ years old. The camera that was used was old school...It was not digital. Maybe there was some deception there. Who knows? But, as far as I can tell, the duo did not have access to the girl's memories. So, then, how could they have made this feat? Honestly, i'm still not sure if this was real, or not. After all, there are times when even though you see things with your own eyes, it doesn't mean it's true. Look at the GReat Spanish American War. It was all a product of Yellow Journalism. Yet I bet it still looked real to the people who were not a aprt of the staging, or the people reading the news in the paper back home. (I"m also reminded of the movie, "The Illutionist", and "The Prestige). But, then again, who ever said that the media tells the truth? Part of the reason I don't trust Criss Angel(David Blaine, and other tv magicians)...is that it is on tv. If I saw them live, and something more surreal than something which could have easily been tricked out with wires n shit, I might believe them. I might be forced to. Might. But I don't know what;s going on in the editing process...Maybe the editors added effects via Avid Xpress Pro. You see, seeing IS believing. At least, for me. And depending on the context in which I see. I know so many girls who who A Haunting, and think those stories are real, and that they are happening in real time. A)Maybe the show is just "Blair Witching" us. Making us believe that these are true accounts, when in fact it is just an excerise in . How do you know that person A wasn't restless with fatigue, or person B, a schizophrenic? I believe in the supernatural, but I beleive there are rational ways to judge each story as fact or fiction.
I was thinking last night that if there is a higher power, would we ever find it? First of all, if we are the spawn of "it", even if "it" is simply some sort of Wizard of Oz thingamajigg in the end, and not even a conscious entity, we would eventually find it, because we are destined to. Through the study of science we will one day find it. What is it that we are missing? Well, as the scientific community will tell you, we are missing the common link between General Relativity and...shit...well the theory that explains the universe on a macrocosmic, as opposed to a microcosmis(I think that's GM), level. I think it might be Quantum Phys/Mech.
Come on Mike, give me your thoughts. Give me something to think about and ponder some more like some philosopher gone mad. I enjoy a challenge.

What if 'God' was one of us?
I'm often asked to explain my beliefs. As a "Gothic"/ "Punk" chick, as many people have come to know me, though I don't ascribe to myself any label(Except, maybe, a philosopher. A person who thinks WAY too much for her own good:)), people often want to believe that I have some sort of out-of-this-world belief system.
So i've made this blog to clear up a few things.
If you ask me what I believe the purpose of life is, I would say I think it is to live life to your fullest potential. Even if, like me, you are in what seems to be an inescapable ditch of poverty, bad credit, and are in the midst of trying to get back into school and piece your life back together, and that slow process is somewhat draining, I would still say that the purpose of life is to rise above your circumstances. The purpose of life is NOT to settle.
I'm often reminded of the homeless people on the streets.
But not all of them have some sort of sob story to tell.
Some of them just give up.
I've noticed that no matter how rough things get, i'm always an even stevens, and, in the form of some, till-then, unseen solution, I find my light at the end of the tunnel.
Life is about not giving up. It is about learning from your mistakes, your experiences, and adjusting your philosophy accordingly.
I was recently asked what do I believe.
Obviously, the conversation turned to God.
I believe that, if there is a God, he is not in any way, the way that we perceive him. (Wow, I just noticed I said, "he", when the correct term would be, "IT!". But i'll say, "he", just for simplicities sake).
This means-All of us. Individually. Collectively. He is not the way that we perceive him.
Why? Because God is not a human being. Therefore, it would stand to reason that he is light years away from human thinking.
Every group of people on the face of the planet, wants to believe that God is "for" them.
The KKK/neonazis, wants to believe that he is for Aryans, and that Jesus was a blonde-haired, blued eyed...Person.
Some Mormons would like to believe that "God hates Fags"...
Though, ascribing God the characteristic of racist, sexist, xenophobic, or homophobic, would be an insult to IT's intelligence.
Historically, cultures have dressed up their gods and goddesses, in what they know best...Their features.
We would have never seen Nordic Freya in a Yoruban shrine.
It just wouldn't happen.
But...If there IS a God. I believe he is above all of this. He didn't make one group of people above another. That's just the egotism of the writers/preachers/believers...Ancient or contemporary.
Egotism is human...Not "Divine".
On the subject of "Egotism", I don't believe that any God would be apalled to learn that his creation went against his initial plan(I.e. Interracial marriage/intermixing, homosexuality, steam cell research etc etc).
Now, in saying all of this, you might have thought that I was talking about the God of the Bible. But that is not neccessarily so. God...or "Creator", does not mean the "Christian" one.
But, on the subject of Christianity.
My beliefs on the Bible, and the account of God therein, is that it is an obstacle that is meant to be OVERCOME.
It is the ultimate matrix.
Most people are all too quick to follow it, mindlessly...Like sheep.
But let's take a look at what would happen if we don't just assume that the biggest, baddest dude/ette in the universe just created a rulebook he expected you to follow, and would whack you, if you didn't.
I believe mankind was suppose to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Do I believe that a creator of the universe, a figure of infinite intelligence, would create something whose main purpose would be to live and die, for it, and not to discover that knowledge, and ultimately possess and utilize it?
NO!
The Garden of Eden wasn't a utopia.
In the G of E, "we" could not think for ourselves. Like young children who are taught to believe that everything their parents believe is correct, the only thing Adam and Eve knew is what God told them. God told them that, "The Garden was Good", and they believed him, because they were neither aware, nor conscious. But when Adam and Eve ate from the T of E, they became AWARE.
Aware of the world...Fast forward this, and, if you REALLY, believe in the Genesis account of creation, you would realize that ADAm and Eve made possible, through natural human curiousity(Which itself has made some of the greatest inventions of all time). important inventions and discoveries in medicine, technology, etc etc.
What would be better? Hmm?
To live in a world where you aren't even conscious that you are living, OR, if you even LIKE the life you're living, OR would prefer something else?
Frankly, I prefer choice.
And I believe that if we have a supernatural purpose in this universe, it is not to be the puppets to some sort of higher power.
In Genesis, God said, "Behold! Man has become one of us"(Meaning, becoming like himself, and the angels). He didn't say it like it was a bad thing. Alright, well, there WAS no tone. But I don't think it was a bad thing. I believe that man is suppose to be like God.
Of course, what's holding us back is ourselves. Our knowledge. Of ourselves, and each other. I believe, if we could over our silly prejudices, and personal values, we could progress to an earth of limitless potential.
Still, I don't believe that we would be better off if we were in the G of E. Well, it might be, if you want to be a vegetable. A utopia, yes, but one we helped build, not one we would not even be conscious enough to know it for our benefit.
Children have to grow and learn. When cavemen touched fire with their bare hands, they knew it was hot. They learned not to touch it again. And from that initial lesson, many more lessons we have learned. Like...Not to play with a nuclear bomb the size of Hiroshima, etc etc.
Comments welcome...
So are debates:D
I already had a bit of discussion with Jerry(For those of you who DON'T know, my manager. Interesting stuff was said...)
