afropunk presents: “what is black music?”

Our Hangout will feature a frank discussion about modern day culture amongst filmmaker/author/television producer Nelson George, musician/curator/writer Sacha Jenkins, music executive Adonis Sutherlin and AFROPUNK Partner Jocelyn Cooper. 

Is the phrase “black music” irrelevant, a product of the 21st century that means nothing in our current era? Is hip hop still an evolving cultural force or has it been overrun by EDM beats and complacency? The state of the music made by African-Americans, as artistic force and commercial entity, will be the focus of our Google+ Hangout.
