From a speech she gave in April 2009 in Oakland, CA in support of death-row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal. Have you heard the latest on his case? The courts have ruled that his death sentence conviction was unconstitutional. I remember back to 1981 when I first heard about him and the blatant racism displayed by the trial judge who presided over his case. He privately spoke about wanting to "help make sure that nigger got fried". Thankfully a court worker who overheard it finally stepped forward (years later). The wheels are turning. There is hope. Let's see where it goes.
