coretta scott king

April 27, 2015

Happy birthday to activist, civil rights leader, and wife of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott (1927-2006) .

Even before marrying King, Scott (an undergraduate at Ohio’s Antioch College) was actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement – a memeber of the NAACP and her college’s Race Relations and Civil Liberties Committees; and after the death of her husband, Scott continued her fight against racial and economic injustice (travelling on goodwill missions to Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia) as well as devoting her later years to AIDS education, LGBT rights, and curbing gun violence.

Watch her speak on her life above. RIP
